How the monthly amount is worked out

Left to save = target − saved so far (never below zero).

Months left = full months from today to the goal date, plus the current month. A goal due later this month has 1 month left; a date in the past has 0 and the whole amount left is due now.

Save per month = left to save ÷ months left. Add these up to get what all your goals need each month, then compare with what you can set aside.

Common sinking funds

Emergency fund (often 3-6 months of essential costs), car repairs and insurance, holidays and travel, birthdays and holiday gifts, yearly subscriptions, medical and dental, home repairs, a new phone or laptop, and a house deposit.
